Oysters and Chenin Blanc

After four tiers of judging the 154 wines entered in the 2006 Pacific Coast Oyster Wine Competition, Dry Creek Vineyard's Dry Chenin Blanc (2005) is again one of the 10 wines selected for the 2006 "Oyster Award".   Our Dry Chenin Blanc has won this award 7 out of 12 times, and currently five years in a row.

Gerard Depardieu Tasting his Wine

Since his father was an accomplished wine maker, we're not surprised that the French award-winning movie actor Gerard Depardieu, perhaps best known for the romantic comedy 'Green Card' or his portrayal of Christopher Columbus in '1492'
is also a wine lover and owns several estates in France and Spain. Get them here.

Duernstein in the Wachau

The Wachau (Austria) is a stretch of the Danube Valley between Melk and Krems, a landscape of high visual quality. Steep, terraced hillsides are dotted with monasteries, castles, ruins, witnesses of a long history. Vines have been cultivated for millennia and the wines, mainly Gruener Veltliner and Rieslings, are renown for their pure minerality. For our Austrian Wines, click here...

What You Should Know about Our Wines

Alcotrade is your indispensable source for interesting, small-production, food-friendly wines. We want to bring delicious wines to your table that go beyond Chardonnay and Cabernet and offer you a choice of many other exciting varietals.

Food compatibility:
I would say 80% of the time wine is consumed together with food. Hence it is only natural that we offer you a selection of wines that make good companions with meals. Not all wines that happen to be 'in vogue' or taste pleasant without food actually qualify as good food matches. The main points to remember here are:
  • stay low on the alcohol (11,5% - 13%)
  • less oak is better
  • acidity is required to produce saliva and clean the palate (this is true for reds and whites)
  • a pretty label does not guarantee a delicious wine

As our eating habits are more and more dictated by concerns over health, our diet is becoming lighter: fewer calories, less red meat and fat, more fish, more vegetables, lighter sauces. I believe that we find charming food-matches as well as good bargains in varietals like Chenin Blanc, Gruener Veltliner, Riesling, Pinot Grigio, Barbera, Montepulciano, Zweigelt, Teroldego, Pinot Noir, Enantio and Sangiovese. Have fun discovering new flavors with these wines! Please feel free to call me (tel 06-6765-7592) any time with questions or special requests.
